Metropolitan Park Commits $10 Million to Jackson Heights Community Hub

A $10 million injection from the Metropolitan Park consortium has provided the foundational capital for the new Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens facility. The funding joins a broader $33.8 million public-private coalition aimed at establishing the first dedicated community center in the Jackson Heights neighborhood.

The capital arrives as part of a larger commitment linked to the $8.1 billion sports and entertainment district proposed by Steve Cohen and Hard Rock International. By serving as the seed money for the project, the investment unlocked further support from state and federal officials, including $10 million from Governor Kathy Hochul and $9.3 million from the New York City Council, facilitated by Council Member Shekar Krishnan.

Additional contributions have been secured through U.S. Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, Congress Member Grace Meng, and Assembly Members Jessica González-Rojas, Steven Raga, and Catalina Cruz. Metropolitan Park leadership, including Sean Caffery of Hard Rock International, framed the contribution as a strategy to extend the project's impact beyond the 50-acre site currently occupied by Citi Field parking lots. The proposed development intends to integrate a hotel, casino, and music venue with local infrastructure improvements, promising 25 acres of public green space and substantial job creation for the borough.
