Lockheed Martin and Royal NLR Deepen Aerospace Defense Collaboration

Two years after launching an exploratory partnership, Lockheed Martin Skunk Works and the Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR) have formalized an expanded strategic agreement. The partnership, solidified at the NL-US Defense Industry Days, shifts the organizations from initial research cooperation to a structured roadmap targeting four primary objectives: integrating the Dutch industrial base into global supply chains, aligning technology development, conducting military operational analysis, and advancing Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).

Since signing their initial Memorandum of Understanding, the two entities have successfully integrated their distinct research cultures to navigate complex security environments. Tineke van der Veen, CEO of Royal NLR, emphasized that the collaboration directly supports the Dutch Defence White Paper 2026, which identifies the United States as a critical ally within the NATO framework. Ron Fehlen, Vice President and General Manager of Skunk Works, noted that the expanded agreement builds on successful early-stage testing of specialized materials, including thermoplastics. This joint effort seeks to bridge the gap between emerging laboratory research and the urgent capability needs of allied air forces.
