Raw Materials Rally as Dollar Softens and Copper Outlook Brightens

A weakening U.S. dollar spurred a broad rally across raw materials today, offering a reprieve to producers of metals and grains. The shift in currency strength coincided with fresh government intervention for the agricultural sector and a bullish forecast for copper, signaling shifting dynamics in global commodity markets.

President Trump pledged an additional $8 billion in direct payments to U.S. farmers, a move intended to offset mounting losses from persistent market disruptions and elevated fuel prices. This capital injection aims to stabilize an agricultural sector currently grappling with significant operational headwinds.

In the mining sector, Anglo American reported a dip in third-quarter copper production, largely attributed to adverse weather conditions in Chile. Despite this seasonal setback, higher ore grades have allowed the company to maintain its long-term growth targets for 2026. Meanwhile, analysts at Goldman Sachs have upgraded their copper price expectations. They point to a tightening global market where a growing shortage of scrap metal in China is driving increased demand for refined copper, providing a structural lift to the metal's valuation.
