Russia Prepares First Diesel Shipment to U.S. Following Trump-Putin Deal

A 40,000-ton diesel tanker is scheduled to depart Russia for the United States this Thursday, marking the first shipment under a new agreement between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak confirmed the move, signaling that further deliveries will follow to address American supply needs.

Russia Prepares First Diesel Shipment to U.S. Following Trump-Putin Deal

The export follows a broader government decision to partially lift a diesel ban, authorizing 500,000 tons for the global market. While Trump previously outlined targets reaching up to 1 million tons, analysts suggest the initial 300,000-ton commitment—roughly 73,000 barrels per day—is unlikely to significantly shift global pricing. US retail diesel costs have remained above $6 per gallon since September.

Beyond energy, the diplomatic outreach includes Russian offers to supply fertilizers and potential cooperation regarding Iran. However, the announcement coincides with an escalation in conflict within Ukraine. Overnight strikes targeted energy infrastructure across Kyiv, Volyn, Odesa, and Mykolaiv, resulting in four civilian deaths. While Russia claims its forces hit military-linked logistics centers, Ukrainian officials reported significant damage to residential buildings and power facilities, further complicating the geopolitical landscape surrounding these energy negotiations.
