Silver bullion purchases on royalmint.com surged 295% compared to the same period in 2025, while platinum revenue climbed 118%. Both metals have already surpassed their previous full-year sales totals with one quarter still remaining. Silver coins proved particularly popular, driving a 323% revenue increase. Gold demand also showed resilience in the third quarter, with coin purchases rising 21% between July and September, contributing to a 10% gain for the year to date.
Stuart O'Reilly, a private wealth consultant at the Mint, attributed this shift to a broadening investor base. First-time buyers accounted for 29% of customers in the latest quarter, marking a 13% increase in new participants since the spring. O'Reilly noted that geopolitical uncertainty and upcoming fiscal events, such as the UK Budget and U.S. midterm elections, likely sustain interest in physical assets as a hedge against volatility.
These results stand in sharp contrast to the performance of the U.S. Mint. American Eagle gold coin sales have plummeted to 111,500 ounces year-to-date, putting the institution on track for its weakest performance since 2000. Analysts link the American decline to aggressive Federal Reserve policy, which has pushed bond yields above 5%, driving investors away from precious metals toward higher-yielding alternatives.
