Russian Diesel Cargo Heads to New York Amid Skyrocketing U.S. Prices

The tanker Agioi Fanendes departed Primorsk on Friday, carrying 300,000 barrels of ultra-low sulfur diesel toward New York. Arriving on November 7, the shipment follows a direct agreement between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin aimed at curbing U.S. fuel costs, though the cargo will miss the November 3 midterm elections.

Russian Diesel Cargo Heads to New York Amid Skyrocketing U.S. Prices

The 40,000-metric-ton delivery represents only a fraction of the volumes promised by the White House earlier this month. While President Trump initially touted plans for over 300,000 tons of immediate exports followed by 1 million tons shortly thereafter, market analysts remain skeptical that such quantities will alleviate the current supply crunch. The Russian government moved to ease its domestic export ban on October 10 to facilitate the first 500,000-ton phase of the agreement.

Despite this diplomatic maneuver, U.S. diesel prices continue to climb, driven by rising crude costs and escalating tensions in the Middle East. As of October 23, the national average reached $6.3172 per gallon, a stark increase from the $3.6315 recorded during the same period last year. Other vessels loading at the Baltic port of Primorsk have signaled destinations in Turkey and Brazil, suggesting that Russian suppliers are continuing to prioritize established markets alongside the new American route.
