Twilio Raises Full-Year Forecast Despite Market Sell-Off

A 17% plunge in after-hours trading greeted Twilio on Thursday, despite the communications-technology firm posting a third-quarter profit of $161.2 million and raising its full-year growth outlook. Investors reacted sharply to the results, disregarding the company's decision to boost its revenue growth guidance to 20% for the year.

Twilio Raises Full-Year Forecast Despite Market Sell-Off

The company’s quarterly revenue climbed to $1.56 billion, comfortably outpacing the $1.52 billion consensus among analysts. Adjusted earnings hit $1.65 per share, significantly higher than the $1.47 expected by FactSet and a sharp improvement from the 23 cents per share reported during the same period last year. Driven by these results, Twilio revised its full-year organic revenue growth expectations upward to 15%, exceeding its previous forecast of 13% to 13.5%.

Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, Twilio projects adjusted earnings between $1.48 and $1.53 per share with revenue reaching up to $1.605 billion. While these figures align closely with market expectations of $1.49 per share and $1.58 billion in revenue, the discrepancy between the company’s strong financial performance and the immediate 17% drop in share price suggests a volatile reception from shareholders regarding the firm's broader trajectory.
