Tech Selloff Deepens as Earnings Disappointment Hits Amazon and Intel

The artificial intelligence rally suffered a sharp reversal as disappointing results from Amazon and Intel triggered a broad retreat in U.S. equities. The Nasdaq Composite plummeted 2.86%, marking its worst monthly performance since March 2025 and leaving investors questioning whether the speculative frenzy surrounding AI is finally beginning to crack.

Tech Selloff Deepens as Earnings Disappointment Hits Amazon and Intel

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 572.25 points, while the S&P 500 fell 1.82%, reflecting a market increasingly wary of the gap between lofty AI expectations and cooling revenue growth. Lorenzo Di Mattia, chief investment officer at Sibilla Capital, noted that current market conditions reveal poor liquidity and a disconnect between high expectations and reality. While tech giants continue to pour capital into AI infrastructure, the anticipated ad-revenue boons have yet to materialize, leading to fears that firms are overspending to secure positions in an unproven landscape.

Intel shares suffered a historic 29% decline—their largest since 1974—following weak revenue guidance tied to a stagnant PC market. Meanwhile, the broader tech sector felt the strain of rising debt concerns, with companies like CoreWeave facing renewed scrutiny over data-center financing. This anxiety spilled into the crypto market, where Coinbase shares dropped 11% following a massive heist at rival Binance. Conversely, energy stocks provided a brief shelter; ExxonMobil and Chevron climbed as oil prices surged past $100 a barrel amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
