Duolingo Shares Surge on Upgraded Revenue Forecast

An 11% jump in after-hours trading greeted Duolingo’s latest financial report, as the language-learning platform raised its full-year revenue outlook to $1.22 billion. The company’s ability to exceed analyst expectations for the third quarter signaled a turnaround, despite a significant year-over-year drop in reported net profit.

Duolingo Shares Surge on Upgraded Revenue Forecast

The company now projects total annual bookings of $1.3 billion, a modest increase over its previous guidance. This optimism is fueled by strong user engagement, with daily active users climbing 29% to 64.9 million—comfortably beating Wall Street projections of 62.4 million. While paid subscribers reached 13.1 million, falling slightly short of the anticipated 13.2 million, the platform’s aggressive testing of new notification systems and streak mechanics appears to be driving the desired user acceleration.

Chief Executive Luis von Ahn noted that the firm’s strategic shift toward prioritizing teaching quality and user growth is yielding measurable results. Revenue for the third quarter hit $309 million, surpassing analyst forecasts. Although profit plummeted to $27.2 million from $292.2 million during the same period last year, the company expects the current upward momentum to persist through the final quarter, where it anticipates sales of $322 million.
