European wind giants and South Korean solar manufacturers led the surge on Wednesday morning. Denmark’s Orsted climbed 6%, while turbine producer Vestas saw shares rise 5%. In Seoul, Hanwha Solutions Corporation jumped 18%, bolstered by double-digit gains from HD Hyundai Energy Solutions and OCI Holdings. Analysts attribute this movement to a strategic shift, noting that capital is actively exiting AI infrastructure plays as scrutiny over data center expansion intensifies.
Investment strategist Anna Wu suggests that the legislative shift is already forcing a reevaluation of portfolios. Beyond renewable gains, the Democratic control of Congress—coupled with key gubernatorial wins in Texas and Ohio—has introduced new regulatory uncertainty for the tech sector. Investors are bracing for stricter permitting requirements and oversight on AI developments, creating a distinct divergence between the growth prospects of clean energy firms and the high-flying tech stocks that dominated the previous market cycle.
