The partnership, known as ARCTEC Alaska, combines the expertise of ATCO Frontec and ASRC Federal, an Alaska-based subsidiary focused on U.S. government services. Under the terms of the deal, the joint venture will manage operations and maintenance for the Alaska Radar System (ARS), a sophisticated network designed to provide continuous airspace surveillance. The system serves as a primary early-warning tool supporting the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) mission.

Strategic Defense Infrastructure

The scope of the contract extends across the rugged Alaskan landscape, covering more than a dozen long-range radar sites. In addition to these remote installations, ARCTEC will be responsible for radio sites and support facilities located at the ARS headquarters at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. This long-term commitment reinforces Atco’s footprint in the defense and government services sector.

By maintaining the ARS, the joint venture ensures the functional readiness of sensors that monitor the northern approaches to the United States and Canada. The contract follows a history of collaboration between the Canadian energy- and infrastructure-focused holding company and U.S. defense agencies, emphasizing the critical nature of the Arctic surveillance corridor in modern aerospace security.
