Nawrocki blocks crypto bill for third time citing legislative friction

Polish President Karol Nawrocki has rejected the latest legislative attempt to regulate the nation’s cryptocurrency sector, marking his third veto on the matter. The decision leaves the country in a precarious position as it faces a looming July deadline to implement the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation.

Lawmakers passed the bill in May against a backdrop of local market instability, triggered by the collapse of Poland's largest cryptocurrency exchange. While the administration views the legislation as a necessary step toward sector oversight, Nawrocki maintains that the current draft fails to incorporate specific improvements proposed by his office. The President emphasized that while he remains in favor of consumer protections and market formalization, he refuses to sign off on a framework he deems ineffective. The standoff suggests that unless the government agrees to incorporate his requested amendments, the legislative impasse will continue to delay Poland's compliance with broader EU mandates.
