Skanska to Build SEK 4.4 Billion Emergency Wing in Karlstad

A 90,000-square-meter medical facility is set to rise at Karlstad Central Hospital, following a SEK 4.4 billion contract signed by Skanska. The project, which anchors the hospital's long-term expansion, will integrate critical care units into a single high-tech structure designed for extreme operational robustness.

The seven-story building serves as the centerpiece of the hospital's modernization, housing an emergency department, intensive care unit, maternity ward, and specialized infectious disease facilities. Architects have incorporated a rooftop helicopter landing pad to facilitate rapid patient transport, reflecting the project's focus on high-acuity medical support.

Work on the site begins this autumn, with a long-term construction horizon extending to 2033. The contract value will be officially registered in Skanska’s second-quarter order bookings for 2026, marking a significant infrastructure investment for the region.
