More Perfect Backs Vet the Vote to Solve Election Staffing Shortages

Nearly half of all U.S. jurisdictions struggled to recruit poll workers during the 2024 general election, prompting the alliance More Perfect to fund a new push by We The Veterans and Military Families. The partnership aims to fill these critical gaps by mobilizing veterans to serve at the ballot box.

The campaign, known as Vet the Vote, focuses on recruiting military families to serve in local polling stations, a role organizers believe bolsters public confidence in the electoral process. According to Ellen Gustafson, co-founder of We The Veterans, this initiative creates a virtuous cycle where the civic engagement of veterans reinforces trust in American democratic institutions.

Funding from More Perfect will specifically support the hiring of state-level leads in Arizona, Nevada, and Michigan. These states represent key operational priorities alongside ongoing efforts in Texas, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Beyond personnel support, the resources will be used to produce digital storytelling materials designed to attract new recruits in regions facing the highest staffing burdens. John Bridgeland, CEO of More Perfect, noted that the initiative aligns with the organization's broader goal of securing credible elections through increased community representation.
