Circe Energy Secures 2 GW Capacity to Power West Texas AI Hub

With utility interconnection delays stalling data center growth, Circe Energy is bypassing the grid entirely. The firm has ordered 2 gigawatts of natural gas generation capacity from Cummins Inc. to fuel a massive AI infrastructure campus in the Permian Basin, aiming to solve the industry’s most critical bottleneck: reliable, immediate power.

The 1,950-acre West Texas AI Infrastructure Campus leverages the region's abundant natural gas to feed high-performance computing facilities. By deploying behind-the-meter generation, Circe Energy aims to insulate its clients from the volatile pricing and long wait times associated with traditional utility expansion. The deal with Cummins covers equipment delivery through 2030, with the first phase of the campus scheduled to go live in 2027.

Chief Commercial Officer Dagan Baroco noted that current market constraints make traditional grid-dependent development increasingly difficult to justify. The platform shifts the focus from securing utility queue positions to independent energy production, allowing for fixed-cost energy structures. This strategy not only accelerates deployment timelines for hyperscalers but also reduces the strain on regional power grids during a period of unprecedented demand for AI-ready infrastructure.
