Shift5 and Rune Technologies Partner to Modernize Defense Logistics

Commanders often struggle with a disconnect between real-time vehicle health and the historical data used for sustainment planning. To bridge this gap, Shift5 and Rune Technologies have launched a strategic partnership, integrating onboard platform data with AI-driven predictive logistics to bolster mission readiness across contested environments.

The collaboration links Shift5’s real-time data collection capabilities—which pull diagnostics directly from air, maritime, and ground vehicles—with Rune’s TyrOS platform. By feeding normalized operational intelligence into Rune’s AI-enabled software, the companies aim to transform how the U.S. military anticipates maintenance needs and manages supply chains. This integration allows for more precise resource allocation and helps commanders make informed decisions even when operating in environments with degraded communications.

Shift5 President and Interim CEO Toby Magsig noted that the partnership creates a common data layer, facilitating predictive maintenance that extends beyond the individual platform into the broader logistics enterprise. Rune CEO Dave Tuttle emphasized that the synergy between platform-level data and TyrOS supports complex tasks like autonomous resupply and distributed operations. Both firms are currently supporting the Army’s Next-Generation Command and Control prototype effort, aligning with Pentagon priorities to modernize contested logistics and improve the reliability of critical assets.
