Kentucky American Water Launches $3 Million Infrastructure Overhaul

A $3 million investment is currently reshaping the water grid in Owen County, where Kentucky American Water has launched a series of upgrades to replace aging mains and boost supply reliability. The multi-site project aims to fortify service for residents north of Owenton against future interruptions and pressure fluctuations.

The construction effort focuses on two primary arterial routes. Along Greenup Road, crews are swapping out over 5,000 feet of PVC piping installed in the 1970s for durable 6-inch ductile iron mains. Simultaneously, a more extensive overhaul on US 127 involves replacing three miles of undersized pipe with an 8-inch ductile iron alternative. To further stabilize delivery, a new booster pump station is rising at the Owen County Fairgrounds.

Davis Excavating and Buchanan Contracting are leading the site work, with operations scheduled Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. While the company maintains that access to local businesses and residences will remain open throughout the process, motorists should anticipate noise and traffic adjustments in these zones. Once soil conditions stabilize and local paving permits are finalized, crews will move from temporary surface patching to permanent site restoration.
