The system operates by refracting high-frequency electromagnetic waves off the ionosphere, allowing for the detection of objects thousands of kilometers away. BAE Systems, the industry partner for the project, is scheduled to commence work on July 1. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese framed the deal as a milestone for Australian defense trade, noting that the collaboration leverages the long-standing Five Eyes partnership. For Canada, the acquisition represents a critical upgrade to its Arctic surveillance, providing the Canadian Armed Forces with the reach and precision necessary to address emerging threats from the North Pole region.
