CityUHK (Dongguan) Celebrates First Graduating Class

More than 420 master’s students gathered in Hong Kong on June 22 to mark the inaugural commencement of City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan). The ceremony transformed these pioneers into the university’s first alumni, signaling a milestone for the institution established just two years ago in the Greater Bay Area.

The event drew a high-level delegation, including Vice Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee Leung Chun-ying and Dongguan Vice Mayor Li Jun. Speakers emphasized the university’s role as a bridge for regional innovation, with Mr. Leung urging graduates to leverage the Greater Bay Area’s resources to drive national development. Professor Michael Ngai, Council Chairman of CityUHK, noted the institution’s global standing, citing its consistent recognition as the world’s most international university.

For the graduates, the transition from campus to industry is already underway. Many have secured placements at major tech firms and state-owned enterprises, including Tencent, Alibaba, ByteDance, and CATL. Others are set to pursue doctoral studies at institutions such as Fudan University and Nanyang Technological University, or remain in Hong Kong through the IANG visa program. As the university moves forward, it intends to deepen its focus on interdisciplinary education, solidifying its position as a key academic hub within the region.
