More than 420 master’s students gathered at the City University of Hong Kong campus on June 22, marking the inaugural commencement for the university’s Dongguan branch. Senior officials, including CPPCC National Committee Vice Chairman Leung Chun-ying and Dongguan Vice Mayor Li Jun, joined university leadership to celebrate the milestone. Addressing the cohort, Leung emphasized the strategic necessity of cross-border education, urging the new alumni to leverage regional innovation opportunities. The ceremony highlighted the rapid maturation of the institution, which was founded only two years prior in 2024.

Academic leaders underscored the university's global standing, citing its consistent recognition as the world's most international university. Professor Michael Ngai, Council Chairman, and Professor Duan Baoyan, President of CityUHK (Dongguan), encouraged the graduates to maintain resilience and an entrepreneurial spirit in their careers. Student representative Nie Liheng noted that the program’s unique cross-border structure was instrumental in developing a broader professional perspective.

The inaugural class has already seen significant success in the job market. Graduates have secured positions at major technology and industrial firms, including Tencent, Alibaba, ByteDance, and CATL. Others are set to pursue doctoral studies at prestigious institutions like Nanyang Technological University and Fudan University, while some will utilize the IANG visa scheme to launch careers in Hong Kong. As the university moves forward, it plans to deepen its focus on interdisciplinary, industry-linked curricula to sustain its momentum in the region.
