From Volunteer to Franchise Mogul: The Rise of Arla Rodriguez

For eight months, Arla Rodriguez balanced a grueling 5 a.m. cleaning shift with unpaid volunteer hours at an insurance office. That persistence fueled a transformation from a Cuban immigrant seeking stability to the owner of 12 Estrella Insurance locations, turning a high-stakes gamble into a million-dollar enterprise in Palm Beach County.

The path to entrepreneurship began in 2001 when a local supervisor finally offered Rodriguez a part-time role. She quickly moved from cleaning jobs to full-time insurance work, eventually ascending to a management position by 2006. When the offer to become a franchisee arrived in 2010, she hesitated, describing the transition as both daunting and exhilarating. With guidance from CEO Nicolas Estrella, Jr. and others in the company’s leadership, she ultimately committed to the expansion.

Today, the business is a family-centered operation. Her husband and daughter play active roles in decision-making, helping manage the 12 offices that now anchor her portfolio. The latest addition in Jupiter, Florida, signals that her growth strategy remains aggressive even after 25 years with the brand. Rodriguez attributes much of her longevity to the culture fostered within the firm, noting that the team operates more like a family than a corporate entity, consistently prioritizing community connection over mere transactions.
