Institutional investors hold firm against UniCredit's Commerzbank bid

Institutional investors have tendered just 1.29% of Commerzbank shares in response to UniCredit’s ongoing takeover bid, a figure the German lender released Thursday to challenge its rival's narrative. The data highlights a significant gap between the aggressive pursuit by UniCredit and the actual appetite among major market participants.

Commerzbank disclosed these figures to counter what it described as conflicting statements from UniCredit regarding the success of the acquisition effort. The bank emphasized that its shareholder structure remains largely unchanged despite months of maneuvering for control. Beyond the institutional participation, retail investors have contributed a marginal 0.05% to the tender, while other banks account for the remaining 11.17% of the 12.51% total shares currently submitted.
