GoPro Upgrades MAX2 Camera with Professional Color and Bitrate Tools

GoPro is pushing its MAX2 360 camera into professional territory with a firmware update that introduces 10-bit color, GP-Log encoding, and a significant boost in bitrate. The manufacturer aims to satisfy high-end content creators by expanding these advanced image controls across the entire suite of Time Lapse and video modes.

The firmware update enables a new maximum bitrate of 200Mbps, a move designed to minimize compression artifacts during high-motion sequences. This improvement is now accessible in 8K 360 video and 4K single-lens modes. By integrating GP-Log encoding and 10-bit color depth into TimeWarp, Night Effects, and standard Time Lapse settings, the company provides filmmakers with a flatter, more flexible image profile suitable for complex color grading workflows.

Beyond image processing, the update addresses practical filming challenges. A new anti-flickering toggle allows users to switch between 50Hz and 60Hz settings, mitigating light interference common in varied regional power grids. Additionally, the camera now features enhanced blur reduction for single-lens video, specifically targeting performance in low-light environments. To coincide with the rollout, GoPro has reduced the price of the MAX2 to $299.99—a $200 discount—with a bundled kit including extra batteries and storage available for $369.99.
