Cabrellon Marks 60 Years With Shift to Sustainable Chocolate Molds

Ten years before European regulators moved to ban bisphenol A in food-contact materials, Italian manufacturer Cabrellon Srl had already pivoted to BPA-free alternatives. Now, as the company celebrates its 60th anniversary, it is deepening its partnership with Eastman by integrating Tritan™ Renew into its industrial chocolate mold production.

The transition to Tritan Renew marks a significant evolution in Cabrellon’s portfolio, incorporating 25% certified recycled content into their high-performance molds. This move comes as the European Commission enforces Regulation (EU) 2024/3190, compelling manufacturers to abandon polycarbonate in favor of safer, durable materials. The collaboration between the two companies proved prescient; while the industry currently scrambles to meet new safety standards, Cabrellon has utilized Eastman’s copolyester for over a decade to achieve the necessary impact resistance and dimensional stability required for intricate chocolate designs.

Cinzia Cabrellon, CEO of the firm, noted that the long-standing adoption of Tritan was driven by the belief that a BPA-free material could outperform traditional polycarbonate. This performance has already seen real-world validation at companies like Leone 1857, which began utilizing these specialized molds two years ago. By leveraging molecular recycling technology, Cabrellon is now scaling its production to offer a lower carbon footprint without sacrificing the clarity or mold-release precision that the premium chocolate industry demands.
