Jay Adair Reclaims Copart CEO Role as Jeff Liaw Exits

After holding the top spot for just over a year, Copart CEO Jeff Liaw will vacate his position at the end of July. The Dallas-based online vehicle auction firm announced Monday that Executive Chairman Jay Adair is returning to the chief executive role, effectively reversing the leadership structure established in 2022.

Jay Adair Reclaims Copart CEO Role as Jeff Liaw Exits

Liaw joined the company in 2016 and ascended to the sole CEO position in April 2024. Prior to that transition, he and Adair shared the executive burden as co-CEOs for two years. Adair, a veteran of the firm’s leadership, previously served as CEO from February 2010 until the dual-leadership experiment began.

Despite his departure from the board and the executive suite, Liaw will maintain a connection to the company. He is slated to become a senior adviser to Adair, focusing on customer-centric transition services through July 2027.
