Onkos Surgical Hits 500-Case Milestone for NanoCept Technology

Five hundred complex orthopaedic procedures have now utilized the NanoCept antibacterial implant coating, marking a significant adoption milestone for Onkos Surgical. The 500th operation, performed in Plano, Texas, by Dr. Cyrus Abbaschian, underscores the growing integration of this protective technology within the company's ELEOS Limb Salvage System.

Since receiving De Novo authorization in 2024, the NanoCept platform has become a specialized tool for surgeons navigating orthopaedic oncology and revision cases. The technology functions as an antibacterial coating applied to implant surfaces to mitigate contamination risks before they enter the patient. Dr. Abbaschian noted that in the high-stakes environment of bone reconstruction, every additional layer of defense against bacterial presence is critical for successful clinical outcomes.

Patrick Treacy, founder and CEO of Onkos Surgical, stated that the company remains focused on expanding access to the technology through evidence-driven growth. While the firm continues to broaden the availability of NanoCept across various ELEOS components, it maintains that the technology’s effectiveness in reducing human infection rates has not been proven in clinical trials. Onkos currently serves more than 350 academic medical institutions across the United States, positioning its portfolio as a primary resource for surgeons managing severe bone loss and reconstruction challenges.
