Unlike static historical displays, the "Talk to TR" exhibit generates a digital recreation of the president that reacts to verbal questions in the moment. The system processes inquiries through Azure’s Conversational AI Platform, which has been trained on hundreds of thousands of documents authored by or about Roosevelt. Rather than looping pre-recorded video, the model renders facial expressions and movements frame by frame to simulate a fluid, face-to-face dialogue.
Lina Colucci, CEO of LemonSlice, described the project as an attempt to bridge the gap between historical scholarship and personal engagement. The exhibit, housed within the $450 million library designed by Snøhetta, serves as a test case for the company's 20-billion parameter video model. Both LemonSlice and Microsoft have integrated content moderation and consent guardrails into the software to ensure the technology is deployed within responsible parameters. Former President Donald Trump is scheduled to preview the installation alongside other benefactors ahead of the official Independence Day opening.
