Florida Charter Schools Outpace District Peers in 2026 Performance Data

Sixty-one percent of Florida charter schools secured an 'A' grade in the 2025-2026 academic year, a significant lead over the 48 percent achieved by traditional district-run public schools. These figures, released by the state Department of Education, highlight a widening performance gap in favor of the state's charter network.

Across the state, 78% of charter schools earned an 'A' or 'B' grade, narrowly edging out the 76% of traditional public schools that reached the same benchmark. The data indicates that among 607 charter institutions graded in consecutive years, 68% either improved their standing or sustained an 'A' rating. These results align with a May 2026 report showing charter students consistently outperforming their peers on statewide assessments, particularly within minority and underserved populations.

Lynn Norman-Teck, Executive Director of the Florida Charter School Alliance, credited the success to a combination of focused accountability and family choice. With over 407,000 students enrolled, the charter sector continues to serve as a primary vehicle for public education expansion in Florida. The Alliance maintains its focus on policy advocacy aimed at increasing access to these high-performing institutions while upholding rigorous academic standards.
