AdaptHealth Patient Data Exposed in Social Engineering Breach

A sophisticated social engineering attack has compromised AdaptHealth’s internal patient management systems, granting an unauthorized external user access to sensitive medical and insurance records. The medical equipment provider is currently scrambling to assess the scale of the breach after discovering the intruder moved through their document storage platforms.

The company moved to contain the threat by disabling the compromised user account and resetting credentials across its network. Despite these remedial actions, the full extent of the data loss remains unclear. AdaptHealth confirmed that the exposed information includes personally identifiable details, protected health information, and insurance billing passwords, though executives have not yet determined the exact volume of records accessed.

Investors reacted sharply to the security failure, driving AdaptHealth shares down 7.1% to $10.00 in after-hours trading. The company stated it has since deployed additional access controls to harden its infrastructure against further unauthorized entry.
