Dr. Tetteh, a veteran of combat trauma surgery in Afghanistan and a recognized expert in healthcare artificial intelligence, brings a blend of clinical experience and strategic leadership to the San Antonio-based firm. His background includes founding Specialized Thoracic Adapted Recovery (STAR) Teams—later acquired by a major medical device manufacturer—and currently serving as Vice President of Vituity Organ Recovery. His expertise in clinical informatics and military-grade AI, honed during his tenure at the Department of Defense Joint Artificial Intelligence Center, aligns with the company’s push to modernize transplant logistics.
CEO Dr. Rafael J. Veraza noted that Tetteh’s appointment serves as a critical milestone as the company scales its grant-funded research and refines the VP.S ENCORE platform. The system, which received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation in 2021, aims to extend the viability of donor organs through hypothermic oxygenated perfusion. For Tetteh, the transition to the board represents an opportunity to scale access to transplantation, particularly for pediatric patients and underserved communities. He will now provide governance and oversight as the company shifts its focus toward human trials for underutilized hearts.
