Petra Funds Group and MSCI Partner to Standardize ESG Benchmarking

Private market managers frequently face evaluation through public-market ESG lenses without access to the underlying data used by their investors. Petra Funds Group is addressing this information gap by launching PeerView, a new platform integrating MSCI’s sustainability and climate datasets directly into private market fund administration workflows.

The collaboration aims to bridge the transparency divide between mid-market general partners and institutional investors. While limited partners commonly rely on public-market indexes to assess ESG performance, private managers often lack visibility into these specific benchmarks. By embedding MSCI’s emissions data, climate metrics, and controversy tracking into its reporting services, Petra allows its clients to align their disclosures with the institutional rigor expected by capital allocators.

Charlie Chipchase, managing director at Petra Funds Group, described the initiative as an effort to shift the industry from narrative-driven reporting to data-backed intelligence. The platform is intended to function as an interpretive layer, helping managers translate complex public-market data into a context appropriate for private equity and credit operations. Rather than replacing existing reporting frameworks, the service provides the necessary peer context to ensure that non-financial performance metrics are both comparable and credible during the fundraising and monitoring processes.
