Gardner White and Children’s Foundation Launch Statewide Literacy Campaign

With 90% of brain development occurring before age five, Gardner White and the Children’s Foundation of Michigan have partnered to launch the "Bring It Home for Kids" campaign. The initiative aims to close the gap in early childhood literacy and health access through a new statewide fundraising effort.

From July 9 through August 4, the furniture retailer will donate $50 for every qualifying in-store purchase of $500 or more to the Foundation. These funds will support critical developmental screenings, early language programs, and resources that help parents act as their child’s primary educator. The program extends to the upcoming Grand Rapids location from August 6 through September 1.

Rachel Stewart, CEO of Gardner White, noted that the company’s responsibility extends beyond home furnishing into the communities where their customers live. Andrew Stein, President and CEO of the Children’s Foundation of Michigan, emphasized that private sector involvement in early life development provides long-term benefits for the state’s social infrastructure. The Foundation plans to distribute the proceeds through its established grantmaking process to ensure resources reach the most effective youth-serving organizations.

Alongside the fundraising, the campaign includes a sweepstakes featuring local experiences, such as Detroit Lions season tickets and VIP access to America’s Thanksgiving Parade. Participation is open to all Michiganders, with or without a purchase, through an online entry portal. The initiative marks a significant push to ensure that children across the state enter kindergarten with the language and health foundations necessary for academic success.
