Temu Triples Brand Coverage in Proactive IP Enforcement Push

With a ratio of 331 proactive removals for every single reactive takedown, Temu has significantly tightened its grip on intellectual property violations. The platform’s 2026 report reveals a strategic pivot toward automated screening and rigorous seller vetting, aiming to neutralize counterfeit listings before they reach the consumer's screen.

The company’s latest data shows a massive expansion in its enforcement infrastructure. Its detection database now catalogs 47 million images and 9.5 million keywords, marking a ninefold increase in visual coverage over the past year. This technical wall is supported by a human review team, with the platform rejecting 40% of new seller applicants during the onboarding phase. Furthermore, 16,000 stores faced termination throughout the period for persistent IP policy breaches.

Beyond internal policing, the platform is attempting to shift consumer behavior through its search interface. Queries involving terms like "dupe" or "fake" now trigger educational warnings rather than product results, blocking roughly 80,000 such searches daily. The Brand Guardian Initiative remains the core of this effort, providing 3,000 participating entities with direct access to internal monitoring systems. By partnering with over 130 industry associations, including the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition, Temu is attempting to integrate its enforcement standards into broader global trade norms.
