Oil Prices Surge 9.4% Amid Strait of Hormuz Standoff

U.S. oil futures vaulted to $78.14 a barrel, a 9.4% jump, as President Trump signaled the reimposition of a blockade on Iranian shipping. The sudden escalation in the Strait of Hormuz has stalled tanker traffic, effectively erasing the market stability achieved following the June peace deal.

The rally pulled energy sector stocks upward, reflecting investor anxiety over potential supply chain disruptions in the critical waterway. West Texas Intermediate futures climbed $6.73 per barrel, marking a sharp reversal from the more temperate pricing seen earlier this summer.

Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates is moving to capitalize on the tightening market. The nation boosted its crude output by 80% in June, a decision that followed its formal withdrawal from OPEC.
