Syngenta and Groundwork BioAg Partner to Scale Mycorrhizal Carbon Tech

Syngenta and Groundwork BioAg have launched a strategic partnership to integrate mycorrhizal fungi technology into global crop management. The collaboration targets corn, soy, cereal, and sunflower markets in Latin America and Europe, offering farmers a dual-benefit model that bolsters crop yields while generating new revenue streams through soil carbon credits.

Under the agreement, Syngenta will commercialize mycorrhiza-based products under its own label, tapping into Groundwork BioAg’s manufacturing and digital infrastructure. The initiative focuses on enhancing nutrient uptake and drought resilience, effectively turning root systems into long-term carbon sinks. By catalyzing the formation of durable, mineral-associated organic matter, the technology seeks to move beyond traditional carbon farming toward permanent soil restoration.

Petra Laux, Chief Sustainability Officer at Syngenta Group, noted that the model aims to build resilience and accumulate carbon stocks at an accelerated pace. Groundwork BioAg CEO Alon Werber emphasized that the partnership provides essential commercial validation for their technology, positioning mycorrhizal inoculants as both an agronomic necessity and a significant climate mitigation tool. The companies plan to expand distribution beyond the initial launch regions as they scale their end-to-end carbon program.
