NEMPA members put over 100 vehicles through their paces annually, selecting winners based on their ability to handle freezing climates. For the IONIQ 9, the judges highlighted its confidence-inspiring performance and design as key factors in navigating the Northeast's difficult driving conditions. The vehicle features a 110.3-kWh battery capable of delivering up to 335 miles of EPA-estimated range, with the ability to charge from 10% to 80% in 24 minutes using a 350-kW charger.

To combat the cold, the SUV comes equipped with a standard heat pump, heated side mirrors, and a dedicated Snow mode within its drive settings. Comfort remains a priority, with heated seats available across all three rows. Ricky Lao, director of product planning at Hyundai Motor North America, stated that the award helps dispel lingering consumer skepticism regarding how electric vehicles perform in harsh weather. This accolade builds on Hyundai’s recent momentum, following the recognition of the IONIQ 5 N as the Official Winter EV of New England in 2025.
