This latest investment splits into two primary channels: $500,000 for capacity building across 27 organizations to modernize technology and service systems, and another $500,000 to assist 22 groups focused on senior independence. These funds will facilitate projects ranging from HVAC replacements for elderly residents to mobile farmers' markets that reduce food costs for vulnerable households.

Kendal Bowman, Duke Energy's North Carolina president, emphasized that the initiative is designed to meet residents where they are, providing practical relief when energy usage and household expenses peak. The move builds on a decade-long financial commitment from the company, which has funneled more than $65 million into state-wide community support since 2016. This total includes $34.6 million for general nonprofit programs and $31 million specifically dedicated to utility-bill assistance via the Share the Light and Share the Warmth funds.
