NEXCOM Targets SMB Network Bottlenecks with DTA 1600 Gateway

Small and medium-sized businesses struggling to maintain enterprise-level security within constrained power and space budgets now have a new hardware option. NEXCOM’s DTA 1600 compact gateway aims to provide high-bandwidth connectivity and robust firewall performance, specifically designed to bridge the gap between limited infrastructure and complex edge network requirements.

Powered by the MediaTek MT7988A quad-core processor, the device offloads intensive tasks to dedicated hardware, preserving CPU capacity for higher-layer applications. The architecture includes a 10GbE SFP+ interface alongside 2.5GbE and 1GbE ports, offering connectivity options rarely found in compact form factors. To address reliability, NEXCOM integrated TPM 2.0, its proprietary NEXBOOT dual-layer failover system, and bypass functionality to maintain continuity during system interruptions.

Allan Chui, VP of Network and Communication Solutions at NEXCOM, noted that the platform is engineered to give smaller organizations the same security capabilities as larger enterprises without the associated resource overhead. For system integrators and ISVs, the platform arrives with full OpenWrt environment support and SDKs, intended to shorten development cycles and simplify deployment. Performance benchmarks conducted with open-source firewall and VPN frameworks showed the unit sustaining multi-gigabit throughput even under heavy traffic loads, validating its utility for businesses managing increasingly complex edge environments.
