Beyond vision, the two firms are targeting the robotics 'skin' market. This tactile sensing module, designed to detect pressure and physical contact, is slated for a 2027 release. Mounted on robotic extremities, the technology mimics human sensitivity, a critical requirement for robots operating in complex environments. For manufacturers, the partnership offers a simplified supply chain by consolidating multiple sensor inputs into single, high-value components.

This alliance signals a broader push by LG Innotek to secure a dominant position in the rapidly expanding physical AI sector, which is projected to reach nearly $960 billion by 2033. While LG Innotek continues to leverage its existing work in LiDAR and radar, this TDK partnership allows the company to scale its multi-sensing solutions. Executives from both firms emphasized that the integration of diverse sensor data is now the primary bottleneck for robotic autonomy, making this collaborative ecosystem essential for future commercial deployment.
