Firy Stock Jumps as Court Orders Papaya Gaming to Pay $719 Million

A federal court in New York has ordered Papaya Gaming to pay $719 million to Firy, formerly known as Skillz Inc., following a protracted legal battle over false advertising. The judgment marks a significant escalation in the dispute, replacing a prior $420 million jury award with a larger disgorgement of unjust profits.

Firy Stock Jumps as Court Orders Papaya Gaming to Pay $719 Million

Shares of Firy surged 43% to $11.95 following the announcement, extending a 61% rally over the past year. The court’s decision settles a 2024 lawsuit centered on violations of the federal Lanham Act and New York General Business Law. Beyond the disgorgement, the ruling includes approximately $10 million to cover legal fees and costs through 2025.

The $719 million figure represents the court’s assessment of appropriate recovery, superseding the $420 million in actual damages initially granted by a jury in April 2026. By choosing this higher amount, the court effectively bars double recovery for the same injury. With all post-trial motions from Papaya Gaming now denied, the legal path for the payment is cleared, solidifying a major financial win for the Firy subsidiary, Skillz Platform.
