D.A. Bennett explores moral compromise in new Texas coast thriller

A violent Blue Norther storm on the Texas Gulf Coast serves as the catalyst for D.A. Bennett’s latest novel, Brushstrokes and White Lines. The story follows River Fitzhugh, a former elite student turned hunting guide, whose quiet life on Mustang Island unravels after a fatal accident reveals a dangerous, high-stakes secret.

Fitzhugh, a twenty-six-year-old Rice University graduate, had abandoned a privileged upbringing in Houston to seek simplicity under the guidance of local legend Doc Wilkerson. His existence—defined by the salt air of Port Aransas and his relationship with Mason—is dismantled when a prominent client dies during a routine excursion. The subsequent discovery of a hidden fortune forces Fitzhugh into a criminal underworld that tests his resolve and threatens his future.

Palmetto Publishing released the work on July 28, 2026, positioning it for fans of rugged, character-driven fiction. Bennett, a former City Manager of Port Aransas with a background in urban planning, utilizes a precise, structural approach to storytelling. Drawing on a peripatetic childhood as the son of a military family, the author infuses the narrative with themes of identity and the heavy cost of sudden temptation. The novel is currently available through major online retailers, including Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
