Enbridge Expands Growth Backlog to $41 Billion Amid Market Volatility

Enbridge Inc. reported second-quarter earnings of $1.4 billion on Wednesday, reaffirming its 2026 financial guidance while expanding its secured capital backlog to $41 billion. Despite broader energy market volatility, the company continues to advance major infrastructure projects, including the $1 billion Line 5 relocation in Wisconsin.

The company recorded adjusted EBITDA of $4.8 billion for the quarter, an increase from $4.6 billion in the same period last year. CEO Greg Ebel attributed the results to the firm's strategic asset connectivity, noting that Enbridge has sanctioned $9 billion in new projects year-to-date. This progress includes the recent construction start on the $4 billion Sunrise Expansion of the B.C. Pipeline system.

Financial performance was bolstered by increased revenues from rate case settlements in the U.S. gas transmission segment, though GAAP earnings saw a year-over-year decline to $1.4 billion from $2.2 billion. This shift was largely driven by non-cash changes in the fair value of derivative financial instruments used for risk management. Looking ahead, Enbridge remains committed to its 5% annual growth outlook, maintaining a debt-to-EBITDA ratio of 5.1x as it pursues further expansion opportunities across its North American network.
