The appointment comes as Unit 221B faces rising demand from international markets, government agencies, and financial institutions struggling with increasingly sophisticated criminal networks. CEO May Chen-Contino identified April’s background in building tools for investigators as the critical factor for scaling the company’s threat intelligence platform. During his four-year tenure at Maltego, April directed significant product evolution, expanding data models to help professionals map complex digital relationships.

At Unit 221B, April will integrate the firm’s decade of operational threat intelligence with new automated technologies. The company aims to move beyond simple data collection, using AI to help users dismantle networks with greater speed and precision. April noted that the opportunity to combine proprietary intelligence with an ambitious product vision drove his decision to join the team, signaling a transition toward more autonomous investigation tools.
