President and CEO John Thomasian cited Carney’s multifaceted background in finance and operations as the driving force behind the promotion. Thomasian noted that as the credit union pursues sustained growth, the need for a dedicated, proactive risk management function has become critical. Carney, who joined the Worcester-based lender in 2007, previously served as Vice President of Risk and Revenue, where she refined the credit union’s risk assessment protocols and bolstered the internal Risk Committee.
Before her time at Webster First, Carney spent a decade at Flagship Bank. She holds a B.S. in Business Administration and an M.S. in Management from Worcester State University and is currently working toward a master’s degree in Enterprise Risk Management at Boston University. In her new capacity, Carney aims to integrate risk oversight into the institution's broader decision-making processes, emphasizing a commitment to long-term organizational health and member protection.
