BorgWarner Secures Major EV Drive Module Contract for 2027

BorgWarner has clinched a deal to supply a global automotive manufacturer with its next-generation integrated drive module (iDM) technology. Production for the new contract is scheduled to commence in 2027, marking a significant expansion of the company’s footprint in the electrified propulsion market.

The supply agreement centers on a three-in-one coaxial drive system, which bundles an eMotor, a gearbox, and a GenIV inverter into a single, compact unit. By utilizing the company’s proprietary Viper D power switch technology, the system aims to reduce switching losses and increase current capacity, directly boosting overall vehicle efficiency. The architecture is designed for modularity, allowing the manufacturer to scale the platform across different vehicle types while reducing development cycles and engineering complexity.

Isabelle McKenzie, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc., noted that the project leverages the company’s global technology portfolio alongside localized manufacturing capabilities. Beyond the core powertrain components, the system includes an oil-cooled motor and a integrated park system engineered to meet current safety and regulatory standards. The compact design is specifically intended to provide greater flexibility for vehicle packaging, supporting the industry's shift toward lighter, more efficient electric vehicle architectures.
