AI Bubble Fears Drag Down Tech Stocks Amid Oil Price Slide

A 7.4% plunge in oil prices brought temporary relief to inflation-weary investors, yet the broader market struggled to find footing. AI Bubble Fears Drag Down Tech Stocks Amid Oil Price Slide

The tech sector remains caught in a tug-of-war between investors betting on exponential growth and those fearing a looming bubble. Concerns center on mid-sized firms struggling with unsustainable data-center debt, fueling anxiety that these pressures could migrate to industry giants. Marvell Technology saw its shares drop 13% following an $80 billion agreement to acquire Lumentum, which itself tumbled 19%. Oracle also fell 8.8% after announcing a $20 billion capital raise to fund infrastructure.

Despite the volatility, some analysts maintain that the infrastructure buildout is too entrenched to be stalled by political shifts or market jitters. J.D. Joyce of Joyce Wealth Management likens the current turbulence to the dotcom era, suggesting that while individual players may falter, the underlying technology remains transformative. Meanwhile, the broader economic landscape showed signs of resilience as the Institute for Supply Management’s purchasing managers' index rose to 55.5 in October, signaling continued expansion. Outside of tech, Marriott International climbed 4.3% on strong regional demand, while The Estee Lauder Companies retreated 4.1% following its latest earnings report.
