Sight & Sound Marks 50 Years of Faith-Based Theatrical Storytelling

From humble slideshow beginnings in 1976 to a global entertainment powerhouse, Sight & Sound is celebrating five decades of bringing scripture to life. The Lancaster-based organization, which now welcomes two million guests annually, marks the milestone by reflecting on its growth from a local ministry to a multi-platform production giant.

The company’s evolution was forged in crisis. In 1997, just days after the premiere of their production 'NOAH,' a fire leveled their Lancaster entertainment center. Founders Glenn and Shirley Eshelman viewed the catastrophe not as an end, but as a calling. Within 18 months, they rebuilt a facility seating over 2,000, setting the stage for further expansion into Branson, Missouri, by 2008.

Today, the ministry operates across multiple mediums, including the Sight & Sound Conservatory, which has trained over 120 artists since 2013, and a global streaming platform reaching 200 territories. Their recent pivot to feature films, including 'I HEARD THE BELLS' and 'A GREAT AWAKENING,' signifies a shift from local theater to international cinema. CEO Matt Neff attributes this longevity to the organization's core mission rather than commercial strategy, noting that the upcoming 2027 season will feature the return of 'JONAH' to Lancaster and the Branson debut of 'DANIEL.'
