The revenue decline follows a year-over-year drop from 3.01 billion dollars, driven primarily by weakness in the company’s potash and Fertilizantes divisions. While phosphate sales provided a partial buffer, they were insufficient to offset the broader downturn. The bottom line took a significant hit from 351 million dollars in pre-tax charges, including non-cash project write-offs and mark-to-market adjustments on the company’s stake in Ma'aden.
Chief Executive Bruce Bodine acknowledged the difficult operating environment, noting that the firm has curtailed phosphate production and trimmed capital expenditures to preserve liquidity. Despite the net loss of 86 cents per share, Mosaic managed an adjusted earnings figure of 13 cents per share, narrowly edging past the 12-cent estimate projected by analysts polled by FactSet. Management maintains that these production pullbacks are temporary, with the firm positioned to scale operations upward should market affordability and availability conditions stabilize.
