Tennessee Deploys Wearable Panic Buttons Across All State Prisons

Every officer and staff member within Tennessee’s state-operated correctional facilities will soon carry a wearable panic button, marking a major shift in how the Department of Correction manages internal security. The initiative centers on a new Nashville-based intelligence hub designed to track and coordinate emergency responses in real time.

Under the direction of Commissioner Frank Strada, the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) is rolling out the CENTEGIX Safety Platform across all 10 of its state-run prisons. The system provides staff with wearable CrisisAlert devices that allow for immediate distress calls from any location within a facility. Once triggered, the alert pinpoints the user’s exact position, sending data directly to the newly established Correction Safety Intelligence Center (CSIC) in Nashville.

This centralized command structure operates 24/7, enabling personnel to monitor incidents across the entire state network simultaneously. By integrating these alerts into a single hub, the department aims to accelerate response times and improve coordination between on-site teams and external agencies. Commissioner Strada described the move as a necessary upgrade to modern safety standards, noting that the technology ensures staff members can summon assistance instantly during critical incidents. CENTEGIX CEO Brent Cobb stated that the project represents a comprehensive safety architecture rather than a simple equipment purchase, setting a benchmark for correctional security nationwide.
