US Job Growth Slows to 79,200 as Hiring and Attrition Cool

The U.S. labor market added 79,200 jobs in July, a figure that highlights a broader cooling trend as both hiring and attrition rates decline. While the pace of growth has softened, salary offers for new job postings rose by 2.0% month-over-month, signaling a complex environment of low-turnover stability.

Growth in the healthcare and manufacturing sectors anchored the July figures, with HCA Healthcare, Kaiser Permanente, Lockheed Martin, and Tesla leading the expansion. Conversely, the leisure and hospitality sector faced the sharpest losses, largely driven by workforce reductions at Starbucks and Inspire Brands. Despite the slowdown, Revelio Labs noted a modest 0.3% uptick in active job postings, suggesting that demand may be finding a floor after months of stagnation.

Chief Economist Lisa Simon emphasized that while the latest data points to stabilization, the modest increase in postings remains insufficient to signal a broad economic turnaround. The report, which draws on a dataset of over 100 million U.S. profiles, reveals that salary growth is currently concentrated in professional services, public administration, and hospitality roles. This ongoing transition reflects a low-hire, low-fire climate as businesses navigate shifting labor dynamics.
